Leander Road closed Saturday afternoon

Leander residents are closing their road this Saturday, 15th March, at 3pm to hold another ‘Play Street’, Josephine Avenue end.

This is all part of a London-wide scheme to reclaim the streets so that parent can let their children play – www.londonplay.org.uk

London Play is one of four organisations being funded by the Department of Health to support the development of play streets across London and the country. Along with Play England, Playing Out and Bristol University, we will be supporting communities and local authorities, particularly in disadvantaged areas, to reactivate a culture of children playing out in the streets near where they live and embed this in local policy.

The Department of Health is interested in the potential for the revival of street play to have a positive impact on activity levels in children and on childhood obesity.

The project partners will work with local authorities and health and wellbeing boards to embed support for resident-led street play into local public health plans. Additionally, they will support local organisations so they can be commissioned by local health funders to support communities in areas of high deprivation to activate street play.

The project will test a range of different ways residents in different communities can make their streets great places for their children to play. The ways that work will be shared with both residents and local authorities across the country so they can identify the solution that will have the most impact in their area.
