Lambeth want to know what people think about alcohol and late night licensing in the borough and are reviewing their licensing policy. This will mean changing the rules for late night licensing in Lambeth. They want the borough to have a thriving nightlife which brings people and businesses to the area but at the same time protect the safety, happiness and wellbeing of its residents. The Lambeth Licensing Plan will determine how they achieve this.
The consultation will finish on 30 September 2013.
Since the 2003 Licensing Act, which allowed longer opening hours, Lambeth has seen an explosion in its night time economy. Lambeth now has more licensed premises than almost anywhere in Britain. This has attracted visitors and boosted the economy, but it has also brought problems. Lambeth now has the UK’s 7th highest rate of alcohol related crime, as well as a range of issues to do with safety and social cohesion.
