Helix Gardens to be re-paved, but not Josephine Avenue

Lambeth Council have now written to all residents of Helix Gardens informing them that work will start on re-paving our dilapidated pavements as part of their “initiative to improve neighbourhoods across the borough”.

Work will begin on Monday 22nd June and should be completed by Friday 10th July 2015. Obviously the word should rang alarm bells as our annual Urban Art event happens the 11th and 12th July. However, we have been given assurances from Ian Neville (Lambeth Project Engineer) that…

If at any point these works are in danger of running over they will clear site and return after the weekend planned for the Urban Art event

JAG also took the opportunity of asking if Josephine Avenue would also be re-paved, but apparently not? Here is Ian’s reply…

Unfortunately Josephine Avenue does not feature on the first quarter programme.  Below is the standard template we send out when we get requests for surfacing and at the moment the surveys are still going on

    Hope this helps

Lambeth roads (carriageways/footways) are given a condition score out of 10 (10 being the worst). Only roads with a condition score of 6 or above are further analysed for resurfacing works. A final score is then calculated using the condition score and criteria such as the parameter of the road in relation to its distance from schools, hospitals and A/B road linkages, also taking into account traffic sensitivity and planned utility work etc.  A planned works list is created and the road is positioned (on the backlog list) based on the final weighted score achieved. The term ‘road’ is used to describe either a footway or carriageway and the same scoring system and criteria are used for both.

All Lambeth Roads will be subject to an independent survey this year and a new list will be created based on the condition scores we receive so unfortunately at this stage we cannot give time frames for any future resurfacing works

    Cheers
