Bike Hangar Meeting

    bikehangar.jpg-pwrt2

We’ve been looking into how we can get a bike hangar installed on the street to provide a secure cycle lock up. You may have seen them in the area, the council buys the hangar and cyclists rent the spaces off them. Each hangar can fit up to six bikes and occupies half a parking space. The council normally installs two next to each other, taking up five metres equating to 12 bike spaces for the space of one car.

The hangars provide a safe and dry storage space and are secured to the ground using bolts (so can be moved if initial location is problematic). The cost of renting a space is £67 for the first year, then £42 and the rental term runs on a 12 month rolling basis.

The hangars would be a great help to many of us who don’t want to leave our bikes outside and have to carry them up several floors every day.

Councillor Mary Atkins has organised a meeting with Lambeth council’s Cycling Officer for residents to find out more about the scheme, please feel free to come along. The meeting is on:

    Thursday 8th January 2015
    6.30pm to 7.30pm at the
    Elm Park Tavern (back room),
    Elm Park Road, SW2 2TX.

The council has a huge backlog of requests for the hangars so to help speed it along, Mary’s advised we record residents’ support for the hangar. It would be great if you could complete this poll if you are in favour of one being installed.

Would you approve of Bike Hangers in Josephine Avenue? (you must be logged in to vote).
