The fourth Herne Hill Music Festival will take place in October 2014, and on Saturday 18th October there will be another of their highly successful collaborative projects involving a composer, a local orchestra, and the pupils of Lambeth Council’s Tippett Music Centre. They are looking for a composer to write a new, 5-minute, piece for the event. The project will involve:
– attendance at one of the sessions of the Music Centre in June, either Saturday morning on 14th or 21st, in order to meet the pupils in the string ensemble and wind band at the centre – both 30-40 strong ensembles.
– attendance at an event of the local orchestra, the LCCO, preferably their workshop on Saturday July 5th
– writing a 5-minute piece for the pupils ensembles and the LCCO to perform together.
– attendance at the Music Centre on October 18th for a rehearsal of the piece from 10.30-11.30, and then for a concert to parents and the public from 1-1.30pm. You can conduct if you wish. Otherwise the LCCO’s conductor will do this. Another rehearsal the previous Saturday may also be possible.
The concert will also include a piece played by the LCCO, and probably pieces prepared by each of the pupil ensembles.
If you would like to carry out this project, please send your CV and a PDF of a sample score for larger ensemble to:

by May 1st at the latest. The composer for the project will be selected by two experienced composers who help run the Festival.
Since the two composers who have carried out his project previously have been men, they would particularly welcome applications from women composers.
