We have a new and unusual restaurant opening on Brixton Hill. Brixton Prison’s new ‘Clink’ restaurant will open Thursday 27th Feb serving modern British dishes with a seasonal focus. This will initially be open for lunch only, 12 till 12.30pm, Monday to Friday with prices ranging from £5 to £15.
This continues a charitable initiative that has already proved successful in prisons in Surrey and Cardiff. The restaurant is staffed entirely by prisoners (who are usually coming towards the end of long sentences), and aims to teach them about the hospitality industry and equip them with skills that will help get them back into employment upon release. The ultimate goal is to reduce prisoner re-offending rates, which is currently as high as 49%.
You can reserve a table via the charity’s website, though as it’s in a prison there are some security checks and guidelines to be aware of, such as leaving your phone at the door. More details can be found at www.theclinkrestaurant.com
