At tonight’s meeting, held at the Tulse Hill Estate Jubilee Hall, Norma Fender (Lambeth Road Danger Reduction Manager) told local residents that the council had issued an Emergency Notice regarding parking on Tulse Hill and Upper Tulse Hill road. She also received a round of applause after announcing that double yellow lines would start to be painted tomorrow, Friday 25th July (election day).
According to James Alexander, Secretary of the Tulse Hill Residents Association, historically cars did not park along that stretch of the road even though they were entitled to. However a silver car started parking opposite Jubilee School a few months back and that started the trend. (It was not because of any parking restrictions introduced on the estates, as had been incorrectly rumoured.)
Tim Sutton, from Josephine Avenue, agreed that yellow lines were needed along Tulse Hill but pointed out that parking restrictions do push cars into other streets. He suggested now would be a good time for Lambeth to redress their failed promise to review the Brixon Hill ‘Q’ CPZ (which includes Josephine Avenue) as well as reviewing all CPZs in the Brixton Hill / Tulse Hill / South Circular triangle.
Another Tulse Hill resident suggested that the width of the very wide pavement outside Jubilee School could be reduced to provide drop-off bays for parents driving their children to and from school. This was well received by the meeting, however the Lambeth representative felt this would go against council policy of reducing car use in the borough.
